Parrots are a broad order of more than 350 birds. Macaws, Amazons, Cockatiels, Lovebirds, Cockatoos and many others are all considered parrots.
Though there is great diversity among parrots, there are great similarities as well. Similarities that define parrots are they have curved beaks and all have four toes on each foot, two pointing forward and two projecting backward (zygodactyls). Most parrots eat fruit, flowers, buds, nuts, seeds, and a few insects here and there.
Many parrots are kept as pets. The more popular ones are macaws, amazons, conures, cockatiels, parakeets, and cockatoos. Through out history parrots have been popular companions because they are intelligent, charismatic, colorful, and empathetic. Some parrots can imitate many sounds including human speech.
